Extinction Souvenirs . ceramic, underglaze, gold luster . 2024
This ongoing series of work is a collection of souvenir snow globes featuring species now extinct due to human actions. Each object commemorates the lost animal, and notes the location and year of their last know sighting in the wild.
These objects, critique the absurdity of collecting mementos for what is, in essence, un-ownable—creatures we failed to save when we had the chance. The act of owning these fragile representations of extinction emphasizes the tension between human desire to possess, and the reality that the things we have lost cannot be contained or reclaimed. This series invites viewers to confront the uncomfortable irony of holding onto what is already gone, and to reflect on the human responsibility in the extinction crisis.
